Lt. Col. David Hammerschmidt and Air Force Master Sgt. Jason Torres pose together Sept. 11, 2014, after a long night of logging miles in honor of fallen service members during the Run for the Fallen on Kandahar Airfield. Torres and Hammerschmidt met in 2012 when they participated in the California chapter of Run for the Fallen, a race that inspired them to spread the message of our fallen service members and bring awareness to Gold Star families, a family that has lost a loved one in combat.
