U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Vicente E. Perez and his family bow their heads during his retirement from the Marine Corps on Camp Lejeune, N.C., August 1, 2014. Perez joined the Marine Corps in 1999 and has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with a gold star in lieu of second award.
