Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) Commanding Officer Cmdr. John Bradford, right, and Master Chief Quartermaster Tyler Smith attempt to locate a U.S. submarine during a submarine familiarization exercise as part of Surface Ship Anti-Submarine Warfare Readiness and Effectiveness Measure, an exercise focused on the assessment of Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and U.S. Navy’s capability to conduct anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and assess ASW readiness and effectiveness.
