Marines make their way through the jungle toward Landing Zone Pigeon prior to boarding a helicopter Aug. 22 during a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel training exercise at the Central Training Area. The exercise trains the Marines to locate a pilot of a simulated crashed aircraft, tend to the pilot’s wounds and evacuate them. The Marines are with Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
