Dan Bye, a firefighter with the 96th Test Wing, opens the canopy of an F-35A Lightning II to gain access to an unconscious pilot during a joint-base major accident response exercise between Eglin Air Force Base and Duke Field, Fla., Aug. 6. The simulated accident was a mid-air collision of a 33rd Fighter Wing joint strike fighter and a 919th Special Operations Wing C-145. First responders had to react to both accidents simultaneously, secure the scene, put out fires and help the wounded. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt. Samuel King Jr.)
