    Parris Island Fire Department chief Rusty Hesmondhulgh sprays mud and tomato juice off Tomato Festival race participants following the race held July 12, 2014, on Cane Island in Beaufort, S.C. The department worked with Lady’s Island Fire Department to practice decontamination drills and test their equipment’s capabilities to remove “toxins,” tomatoes in this instance, from contaminated persons. Hesmondhulgh, 53, is from Fairhope, Ala.
