Staff Sgt. William Thomas with the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team 'Black Jack' 1st Cavalry Division and his wife pose for a photo during an award ceremony on Cooper Field here June 24. Thomas and five other Mustangs were awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor, and three others received the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for their actions during an armed enemy assault on Forward Operating Base Pasab, Afghanistan, Jan. 20.
