Soldiers with the Iraqi army move a section of concrete pipe into place before it is lowered into a culvert during a construction project to turn a formerly impassable road into a major travel route through the Uzaym Valley on Oct. 8, 2008. IA worked side by side with Army Special Forces and Engineers from the 561st Engineering Company, 5th Engineering Battalion to complete the road in order for heavy equipment to be brought in to drill two water wells to provide fresh water for the local population. The Hamrin reservoir, where most of the area gets its water, currently has a salinity level to high to be safe to drink.
