Rct. Marc Lucas, a 26-year-old native of Clemmons, N.C., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Lucas is training with Platoon 3038, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate May 23, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I wanted to give back to the country for the freedoms that I have. The Marine Corps offered the brotherhood, honor and tradition that I was looking for,” said Lucas, who graduated from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons in 2006 and from Virginia Technical College in Blacksburg, Va., in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
