Rct. Jeremy Weaver, a 22-year-old native of Knoxville, Tenn., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title of United States Marine. Weaver is training with Platoon 3033, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate May 23, 2014. “I’ve been a firefighter and [emergency medical technician] since I graduated high school,” said Weaver, who graduated from Clinton High school in Clinton, Tenn., in 2009, and graduated from Roane State Community College in Knoxville, Tenn., as a certified emergency medical technician in 2011. “I wanted to do more than just serve my community. I wanted to join the Marine Corps for the leadership skills, responsibility, honor, courage and commitment. My family has all been in the Army, and I wanted more. I wanted to be a Marine.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
