Michelle Barbieri, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration veterinarian, prepares to board a U.S. Coast Guard MH-64 Dolphin helicopter to help release a monk seal back into the wild March 14, 2014, at Ford Island, Hawaii. The monk seal was found injured on Kauai and rescued by members of entities such as NOAA, the Honolulu Zoo, Sea Life Park, Marine Mammal Center, and U.S. Coast Guard. A veterinary team was able to remove the monk seal’s injured eye and improve her health enough to be able to release her back into the wild. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Staff Sgt. Christopher Hubenthal)
