Jessica Lopez, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration field research supervisor, prepares to carry a monk seal to a transport vehicle in preparation to release it back into the wild March 14, 2014, at Ford Island, Hawaii. A veterinary team was able to remove the monk seal’s injured eye and improve her health enough to be able to release her back into the wild. The monk seal was found injured on Kauai and rescued by members of entities such as NOAA, the Honolulu Zoo, Sea Life Park, Marine Mammal Center, and U.S. Coast Guard.
