Andrew Nepal from Springfield, with the 1166th Transportation Company, Worcester prepare their LMTVs for tide and flood checks here as part of the Guard’s response to Winter Storm Hercules, Jan. 3, 2014. The 1166th is paired with the Mass. State Police to prepare emergency rescue capabilities during winter storm Hercules. Funds were allocated for the Mass. National Guard to provide up to 400 soldiers and airmen to ensure thorough coverage regardless of the severity of the storm. The 1166th Soldiers' part in that response included an evacuation force equipped with high water capable vehicles for potential rescue situations in the North Shore and Plum Island areas.
