Wes Miller, a Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs energy systems technician, displays digital utility controls fitted to all Camp Grayling lakefront cottage units on Dec. 17, 2013. All Camp Grayling buildings and facilities are or are being fitted with digital smart meters that will allow the building automation system to maintain unoccupied buildings at a set temperature or place them in an occupied mode, allowing the individual or unit occupants to adjust lighting and temperatures to their needs. The building automation system is one of many green energy initiatives the Michigan Army National Guard is employing to conserve energy, reduce pollution and save U.S. taxpayers money by reducing energy costs for everyday operations.
