Camp Grayling, Mich., recycling center manager James Cox demonstrates how a styrofoam compacting machine operates on Dec. 17, 2013. The recycling center processes materials ranging from paper and plastics to construction refuse and trees. The Camp Grayling recycling center is one of many green energy initiatives the Michigan Army National Guard is employing to recycle used materials, reduce pollution and save U.S. taxpayers money by generating revenue from recycled materials sales and using those funds to offset daily operational costs.
