Staff Sgt. David Andrus, 415th Civil Affairs Battalion, is given an Army Commendation medal from Lt. Col. John Lyons, 415th Civil Affairs Battalion commander, Aug. 20, 2013. Andrus is the senior medic for the battalion and took charge of an accident scene he and his company encountered on their way to training. He triaged patients, helped splint a broken leg, helped a rescue a man who was stuck in a mangled car and oversaw his fellow Soldiers who were treating other patients. The Soldiers stayed at the scene until all the injured were loaded into ambulances and then continued to their training. The battalion is a CJTF-HOA unit whose mission includes stabilizing and strengthening security in East Africa through military-to-military engagements with partner nations.
