    Senior Chief Sonar Technician (Surface) Benjamin Pierson, senior enlisted adviser, U.S. Naval War College, Chief Navy Counselor Ann Ferguson, career counselor, NWC, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Don Thieme, Rear Adm. Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr., president, NWC, and U.S. Army Lt. Col. William Bestermann, render honors during a wreath laying as part of a remembrance ceremony at NWC in Newport, R.I., to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The ceremony, which served as an opportunity to honor the 11 fallen NWC students and alumni killed on Sept. 11, 2001, also included music by Navy Band Northeast and remarks from Carter, and guest speakers; Bestermann and Thieme. The following NWC students and alumni perished during the 9/11 attacks: Capt. Gerald F. DeConto; Lt. Cmdr. Robert R. Elseth; Capt. Lawrence D. Getzfred; Angela Houtz; Cmdr. Patrick J. Murphy; Lt. Jonas Panik; retired Capt. Jack D. Punches, Jr.; Cmdr. Robert A. Schlegel; Cmdr. Dan F. Shanower; U.S. Army Lt. Col. Kip Taylor; and retired Capt. John D.
