U.S. Army Lt. Col. William Bestermann, U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Don Thieme, and Rear Adm. Walter E. "Ted" Carter Jr., president, U.S. Naval War College, wait to deliver remarks as the official party during a remembrance ceremony at NWC in Newport, R.I., to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The ceremony, which served as an opportunity to honor the 11 fallen NWC students and alumni killed on Sept. 11, 2001, consisted of a wreath laying, music by Navy Band Northeast and remarks from Carter, and guest speakers; Bestermann and Thieme. The following NWC students and alumni perished during the 9/11 attacks: Capt. Gerald F. DeConto; Lt. Cmdr. Robert R. Elseth; Capt. Lawrence D. Getzfred; Angela Houtz; Cmdr. Patrick J. Murphy; Lt. Jonas Panik; retired Capt. Jack D. Punches, Jr.; Cmdr. Robert A. Schlegel; Cmdr. Dan F. Shanower; U.S. Army Lt. Col. Kip Taylor; and retired Capt. John D.
