GULF OF ADEN – USS Roosevelt’s First Class Petty Officers Association organized an Easter holiday celebration for the crew, April 24.
The day began with a traditional Easter Sunrise service held on the flight deck conducted by Chaplain Eddie Logan, temporarily assigned to Roosevelt from Mayport’s Surface Force Ministries Center.
“I’ve done many sunrise services on Easter, but this one at sea will probably be my most memorable,” said Logan.
After the worship service 44 eggs were strategically placed on the main deck of the ship for sailors to find and win various prizes including movies, Roosevelt belt buckles and services from the FCPOA such as shoe shines and uniform ironing.
“I think the egg hunt was a great idea and a great way to boost morale,” said Paul Brooks, senior chief culinary specialist.
After the egg hunt, Roosevelt’s crew wrapped up the celebration with a special Easter dinner prepared by the ship’s culinary specialists.
Roosevelt is homeported out of Mayport, Fla., and is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
