PINEVILLE, La. — Louisiana Army National Guardsman Lee W. Hopkins of St. Francisville, La., was promoted to the rank of colonel at the Stafford House on Camp Beauregard in Pineville, La., April 14.

Maj. Gen. Bennett C. Landreneau, LANG adjutant general, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by family members, friends and fellow Soldiers of the Bogalusa High School graduate.

"The turnout for this ceremony is a great testimony to an outstanding Soldier," Landreneau said. "I have great respect for Lee and his family. It is a great honor to participate in this and see him achieve the rank of full colonel. This is a great day for the Louisiana National Guard," he added.

Hopkins, who was recently assigned as the commander of the Recruiting and Retention Command at Camp Beauregard, has received several federal and state awards to include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Louisiana Cross of Merit and the Louisiana War Cross.

Hopkins has served the state in various positions during his prestigious 26-year career with the LANG. These positions include: the deputy commander of the 225th Engineer Brigade, executive officer of the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and battalion commander for the former 1088th Engineer Battalion.

"This promotion is well-deserved," stressed Col. Jonathan T. Ball, 256th IBCT commander and former R&R commander. "Not only is he an outstanding officer, but he is an outstanding leader. I have been blessed to have him as my deputy commander for the past 18 months."

"Lee made my job a lot easier," the Pineville resident explained. "I have full confidence that he will meet and exceed all challenges as the new R&R commander."

Following the pinning ceremony, Hopkins showed his appreciation to all in attendance.

"It is great to see all of you here today. As I look around, I see so many who I have worked with and helped me throughout the years," Hopkins said. "Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. Most importantly I would like to thank my family, as I could not have accomplished this without the support of my wife, Lori, and our daughters, Ellen and Emma."

The Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran is the son of Lee V. Hopkins and stepmother Ruth Hopkins of Bogalusa, La.
