FORT BRAGG, N.C. – The Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Command (Theater), welcomed a new battalion commander during a change of command ceremony at the 1st TSC memorial site, August 8, 2008.

Lt. Col. Charles E. Newbegin succeeded Lt. Col. Sherrie L. Bosley, who changed duty assignment after being the STB commander since the 1st TSC's inception April 2006.

Newbegin is no stranger to Fort Bragg. He served with the 1st Corps Support Command from 2003 until 2006, before its transformation to the 1st TSC, and deployed twice with the command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He served with Group Support Operations under the 46th Corps Support Group, 1st COSCOM, from 2003 until 2004. From 2004 to 2005, he served as an operations officer with the 507th Corps Support Group, 1st COSCOM, and as a plans officer with the 1st COSCOM from 2005 to 2006.

"Welcome back to Fort Bragg. I, for one, can't think of a better person to take this command on. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you back to the First Team," said Brig. Gen. Kevin A. Leonard, the commanding general for the 1st TSC. "Your reputation as a great leader, warrior and professional logistician is not a secret. They weren't a secret when you took the First Team to Iraq the last time, and now here you are again."

Leonard warned Newbegin that his new command would not be an easy one, because things had changed since the days of the 1st COSCOM. But he assured Newbegin that he had full faith and confidence in the Soldiers who serve under him, and challenged him to train, lead and mentor those Soldiers who stand ready, willing and able to accomplish their mission in the Global War on Terror.

"It's good to be back here working together with the First Team again ... and meeting the challenges of today's Army's transformation and the Global War on Terror," said Newbegin.

He thanked Bosley for all the hard work that she did in setting the stage and laying the foundation so that he can build upon it, for all her support, and wished her and her family the best of luck.

Bosley took the opportunity to thank all the Soldiers who served under her command.

"Thank you for all you do and all you represent about Soldiers, this unit, and our great military, past, present and future, as you stand here today," said Bosley. "You make us all very proud, and I am truly honored to have been your battalion commander."

She charged them to continue to move forward, to stay inspired, take the hard right, and to make a positive difference in their time with the 1st TSC.
