JOINT BASE MCGUIRE DIX LAKEHURST, N.J. – The Atlantic Division, 75th Training Command held a change of command ceremony here Saturday as outgoing commander Brig. Gen. John H.H. Turner relinquished command to Brig. Gen. Alberto C. Rosende.

The change of command ceremony is a long standing Army tradition. The ceremony symbolizes the transition of command authority from one commander to the next.

Prior to the change of command, Maj. Gen. James “Boe” Young Jr. presented the Legion of Merit to Brig. Gen. John H.H. Turner in recognition of his hard work, dedication and sacrifice.

The Atlantic Division, 75th Training Command is located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. Turner has commanded the 75th Training Command for 3 years, and has developed a special bond with the division.

“The Atlantic Division has been all over the world, has trained thousands of Soldiers in the United States Army Reserve and in foreign armies, and they’ve done this all while being twice the citizen.” Turner said. “I leave knowing that the Atlantic Division will be lead by the very capable command team of Brig. Gen. Al Rosende and his lovely wife, Martha.”

Rosende said he looks forward to the challenges of taking command of the division.

“I am very familiar with the exercises and the mission sets. I support them and whole-heartedly embrace its importance and the impact that we have, and will continue to have, on the overall readiness of our Army Reserve and our fellow coordination,” Rosende said. “I am truly energized by the opportunity to join you in this endeavor, and I look forward to our service together.”

Rosende commanded of the 391st Engineer Battalion in Greenville, South Carolina. He deployed with the battalion in 2005-2006 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He later was assigned to the 926 Engineer Brigade in Montgomery, Alabama and deployed in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 1980, Rosende graduated from Willingboro High School -- 30 minutes from JB-MDL. He graduated as a distinguished military graduate in 1984 from the University of Miami Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps. Rosende holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Nova South Eastern University and a Master’s of Science degree in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University. Rosende is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the George Washington University in Executive Leadership.

Turner is a native of Arlington, Virginia. He was commissioned as an armor officer in 1980. Turner commanded many active duty and Army Reserve battalion, brigade and division levels. Turner works in the Office of Communications at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He and his wife, MaryAnne Sirotko-Turner, live in Atlanta.
