NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the media to the Tennessee Silver Jackets Charter Signing Ceremony 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Metro Nashville’s Development Services Center (Teleconferencing Center) located at 800 2nd Avenue South.

Participants include the adjutant general of Tennessee, Nashville District commander, Memphis District deputy commander, Natural Resources Conservation Service state conservationist, National Weather Service meteorologist in charge, U.S. Geological Survey Science Center director, Tennessee Geographic Information Systems Professional director, and the mayors of Nashville and Clarksville.

Silver Jackets is an innovative program that provides an opportunity to consistently bring together multiple state, federal, and local agencies to learn from one another and apply their knowledge to reduce risk. State agencies, including those of the state hazard mitigation officer and state National Flood Insurance Program coordinator, come together with the federal family of agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in a common forum to address the state's flood risk management priorities. Programs are developed at the state level, but the collaboration with local, state and federal agencies facilitates flood risk reduction, coordinates programs, promotes cohesive solutions, synchronizes plans and policies, and ultimately provides integrated solutions.

Tennessee is the 40th state to form a Silver Jackets program. The charter signing formalizes the partnership between the various government agencies and non-governmental participants.
