PORT HUENEME, Calif. – Feb. 26-28, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 4 conducted a Command Post Exercise at Dozer Field onboard Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Port Hueneme.
The intent of the exercise was to establish Command, Control, Communication, Computers, and Intelligence infrastructure in preparation for the Battalion’s 2014 Field Training Exercise (FTX) and 2014 deployment to the pacific theater of operation.
The exercise lasted 36 straight hours during which all 232 personnel were in full gear and carrying weapons. Training scenarios included simulated chemical attacks, mass casualty drills, and an intruder in camp. The battalion also sent out patrols and set up a defensive perimeter complete with concertina wire and three crew served weapons.
Just a few hours into the exercise, the heaviest rains of the year began to fall, quickly turning the dirt of Dozer Field into a giant mud pit. Although the rain was an inconvenience, it did help NMCB FOUR personnel realize what they might face during FTX at Fort Hunter Liggett in April.
“It was sticky and cold, but I know the importance of wearing proper boots and won’t forget my parka,” said Engineering Aid Constructionman Alicia DeGuzman, a night sentry at the command operation center.
