Pfc. Patrick Gepfrey, a field radio operator with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 7, connects a PRC-117G radio to a satellite communications antenna as part of his requirements for maintaining his military occupational specialty training and readiness standards here, July 16, 2013. “This training proves our capability to establish field expedient communications,” said Gepfrey, a 20-year-old native of Detroit. “This is everything that our job boils down to. If we’re unable to do this, then we fail.”
