Col. Mark S. Larson, commander of the Air Force Reserve 931st Air Refueling Group, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., drives his restored 1943 World War II Jeep in the Derby, Kan., Independence Day Parade, July 4, 2013. Larson was accompanied in the jeep by his children as well as Sgt. (retired) Adrian Marlin, a WWII Veteran who served as a tail gunner in a B-17 flying fortress. Marlin completed 35 combat missions during the war. During one mission in 1944, his aircraft was shot down and crash landed in Belgium. He and his fellow aircrew members were rescued by Belgian citizens who assisted them in making their way back to their home base in England. Dozens of members of Team McConnell participated in the parade as a way to thank the local community for their support of the military. (U.S. Air Force photo by Capt. Zach Anderson)
