First Lt. Forest Davis, a platoon leader with the 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), stops by to thank a local Sons of Iraq member for the great work he and his fellow security force members have been doing in stopping enemy attacks in vicinity of their checkpoint. Davis and the artillerymen from the 2-320th FAR have been conducting "Operation Balls DiMaggio" since June 18; which is a full-spectrum combat operation aimed at interdicting weapons trafficking, capturing munitions financiers, limiting indirect-fire attacks, and other insurgent activity, in vicinity of the Joint Base Balad Anaconda. During the course of the operation, the "Balls of the Eagle" Battalion has been conducting 24-hour combat patrols in an effort to provide a long lasting effect on an ever improving security situation in the area.
