Sgt. Daniel Contreias, a drill instructor from Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot, Parris Island, gives Poolees, men and women who have enlisted in the Marine Corps and are waiting to attend boot camp, a taste of what is to come, during the 2013 Annual Field Meet, at Chicopee High School’s Football Field, May 4, 2013. Approximately 600 newly enlisted men and women from across New England, to include; Western Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island, attended the event. The annual Marine Corps event is designed to test the Poolees’ physical fitness with a pull-up and sit-up competition to ensure that they are prepared for the rigors of Marine Corps boot camp.
