Marine mom misses moments— makes Mother’s Day

Isabella Smith Borja and her mom, Staff Sgt. Mariajose Borja, a linguist manager with Regimental Combat Team 7, visit a river during their last few days together in Quito, Ecuador, Sept. 19, before Borja deployed to Helmand province, Afghanistan. Borja, a 32-year-old from Newark, N.J., keeps pictures of her daughter in her office and spends her free time video messaging with her to help them both get through a yearlong deployment.
