David Rodriguez, U.S. Africa Command commander, makes remarks during the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa Assumption of Command Ceremony at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, April 18, 2013. During the ceremony, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Terry Ferrell assumed command of CJTF-HOA. As USAFRICOM’s forward-deployed presence in Africa, CJTF-HOA conducts military operations, activities and exercises to defeat violent extremist organizations and transnational threats, and to strengthen the operational and institutional capabilities of East African partner-nation militaries in order to promote security and stability throughout the region.
