Marine awarded MARFORRES Marine of the Year

Sgt. Adam K. Smith completes a night hike during the culminating event of his Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor course at Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base New Orleans, Sept. 14, 2011. Smith, the repairable issue point chief for Marine Forces Reserve G4 (logistics and services), was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal after he was selected as the MARFORRES 2012 Marine of the Year (active component). Curtis, the adjutant general of the Louisiana National Guard, at the 2013 Armed Forced Day Luncheon here, May 21. Smith, along with service members from all branches, attended the annual luncheon that celebrated Louisiana’s armed forces personnel.   • Sgt. Freddie Groen, an MAI trainer with the Martial Arts Section, Instruction Training Company, Support Battalion, is currently a drill instructor on quota. He will remain at Leatherneck Square until the end of this year.
