On March 1, 2013, as part of the 70th anniversary of women in the Marine Corps, visitors to Parris Island’s 4th Recruit Training Battalion observe a memorial for female Marines who were killed in combat. Parris Island began training female Marine recruits in 1949, and today 4th RTBn. is the home of all female enlisted recruit training for Marines.
