Lance Cpl. Ben McCroskey, native of Havelock, N.C., passes the volleyball to Lance Cpl. Justin Burbank, native of Elmira, N.Y., during sitting volleyball practice for the 2013 Marine Corps Trials at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 28, 2013. McCroskey lost his left leg below the knee in an improvised explosive device blast while attached to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in Afghanistan in 2010. Burbank was also injured by an IED while with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in 2012. The Trials is an opportunity for wounded Marines, veterans and allies to compete in wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, track and field, swimming, archery and shooting. The top 50 athletes will go on to compete against wounded warriors from the other branches of military service at the Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., in May.
