Lt. Col. Paul Laymon, South Carolina Air National Guard (left), commander of the 43rd Civil Support Team, questions Fire Chief Barry Turner of the Bluffton Township Fire District concerning an exercise scenario during a simulated contingency as part of Vigilant Guard. The 43rd CST, the only joint Army-Air National Guard unit in the state, is located in West Columbia, S.C., and is made up of 22 full-time National Guard members.
