Runners at the start of the 10-kilometer cross-country race, which constituted one of the events comprising the Commander's Cup. The competition between the U.S. Team and Italian military forces, including the Italia Naval Academy, Carabinieri, Folgore, Finance Police, Fire Departments, and Italian Airborne in the provinces of Pisa and Livorno, is designed to enhance the esprit de corps and to familiarize participants with the different military units.
