This blue catfish caught while doing surveys below the Melvin Price Locks and Dam was measured and checked for a tag before it was returned to the Mississippi River. The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Conservation are studying the populations to improve habitat of fish species in the Mississippi River. The blue catfish is a big-river fish, preferring swift chutes, pools with noticeable current, and silt-free substrates of sand, gravel, and rubble.
