U.S. Army Spc. Ricardo Lara, an army fire control specialist assigned to the 4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, simulates reloading an M2 Machine Gun during the weapons assessment of the 1st Armored Division Artillery Best Redleg Competition, April 3, 2024 at Fort Bliss, Texas. The Division Artillery Best Redleg Competition is an integral part of the Field Artillery Branch and 1st Armored Division's pursuit of excellence and readiness serving to enhance the overall combat effectiveness of artillery Soldiers.
The winning team will be named the 1st Armored Division's Best Redleg Team and will represent the 1st Armored Division "Old Ironsides" during the inaugural General Raymond T. Odierno Best Redleg Competition, happening at Fort Sill, Okla., the ancestral home of Field Artillery in May 2024.
