District employees celebrate BHM at kick-off ceremony

Col. Mark Toy, District commander, Los Angeles district, Corps of Engineers, and Arnecia Williams, BEP program manager presents keynote speaker, Lowell Morgan with an Award for his participation in the Black Employment Special Emphasis Program (BEP) Committee’s Black History Month kick-off, ceremony held at the district conference room, Feb. 4 in Los Angeles. The ceremony was held in the District's 12th floor conference room-the site of all scheduled 2013 BHM events this month.

After distributing donations to the residents of Downtown Women's Center, Los Angeles, the team visited the center’s retail store “MADE by DWC.” The store features items made by women at the center with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the DWC.   • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Black Employment Program honored Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day of service by delivering more than 100 pounds of collected toiletries and toys to local shelters in the downtown Los Angeles community. BEP program team members Matthews Turner, Lashawn Richardson, Debra McCree, Arnecia Williams and Brooks Hubbard delivered items to the Downtown Women’s Center, located one block away from “Los Angeles’ skid row.” Team members handed out about 70 toiletry kits to residents of that center.
