A U.S. soldier waits for an aircraft prior to a mission in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, Afghanistan, Jan. 3, 2013. The mission was to arrest a Taliban leader who was presumed to have planned and executed small-arms fire and improvised explosive devices against Afghan and coalition forces.
