240108-N-VM650-1457 MANILA, PHILIPPINES (Jan. 8, 2024) Rear Adm. Carlos Sardiello, commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 1, presents Capt. Thomas Chekouras with the Legion of Merit award for his achievements during a change of command ceremony aboard Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104). During the ceremony, Capt. Trent relieved Capt. Thomas Chekouras as Commodore, Destroyer Squadron ONE. USS Sterett is in the Philippines for a scheduled port visit, supporting operational readiness and regional partnerships.
