The 82nd Airborne Division’s 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, and 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, celebrate their 81st Regimental Birthday together with a joint formation and cake cutting ceremony on October 20, 2023, at Fort Liberty, N.C. Lt. Col. Phillip Waggoner, 1-508th PIR Battalion Commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Kyle Margelofsky, 1-508th PIR Battalion Command Sergeant Major, add a Meritorious Unit Citation streamer and Presidential Unit Citation streamer to the battalion guidon for unit actions during their 2007-2008 deployment to Afghanistan.
