First Sergeant Arthur P. Hernandez (left), battalion first sergeant with Headquarters Battalion aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow and Lance Cpl. Kristopher Ezell, a wireman aboard the base stand at attention as Col. Michael L. Scalise, commanding officer of MCLB Barstow, cuts the first piece of cake during the cake cutting ceremony at the Family Restaurant held Nov. 8 aboard the base. Traditionally, the first slice of cake is presented to the youngest and oldest Marine present for the ceremony, symbolizing the passing of knowledge down from one generation to the next.
