New York Army National Guard Spc. Quasey Cooper from Company F, 427th Brigade Support Battalion helps New York State Police Scuba Team members load gear and equipment into his high axle vehicle here, Oct. 30, before the State Police team employs their zodiac boat to flooded regions of the city. The National Guard’s high axle vehicles provided evacuation support to Long Beach residents in areas now inaccessible by other first responder vehicles. The National Guard response force is part of Governor Cuomo’s callup of more than 2,200 troops in response to subtropical storm Sandy which struck New York City and Long Island, Oct. 29. The National Guard has been supporting local emergency responders in and around Long Beach to assist residents coping with the severe flooding caused by the 10-foot storm surge.
