U.S. Marine Corps Col. Matthew Danner, the commanding officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, awards a coin to Cpl. Taylor Whetzal, an intelligence specialist with the command element, 31st MEU, aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 4, 2023. Whetzal received the coin to highlight her consistent hard work and achievement throughout the patrol. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of USS America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
