Lance Cpl. Nick Lemon, a military working dog handler with 3rd Law
Enforcement Battalion, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and his K-9 partner
Benny, share a bonding moment to get worked up for night operations
training during the Inter-service Advanced Skills K-9 course, at the
U.S. Army's Yuma Proving Ground, Sept. 24. As the sun set and the
stars began to appear, the Visalia, Calif. native and 18 other student
K-9 teams took to the desert to prepare for various upcoming
deployments. Improvised explosive devices pose the most imminent
danger to service members in Afghanistan, and the best and most vital
tool against that threat are the military working dog teams scattered
across the country to support combat and peace keeping operations
there. The teams use the course to hone their skills before performing
    in the big show.
