Master Sgt. Jason Velez, an operations chief with 1st Marine Division (Forward), retrieves a bag with his five-year-old son, Bishop, during a homecoming event here, Aug. 22. Velez, a 40-year-old native of New York, was greeted by his wife and two children after arriving from a trip that lasted more than 28 hours. The Division returned from a seven-month deployment to Helmand province, Afghanistan after serving as the command element for Task Force Leatherneck, which comprised the majority of ground forces in Helmand province.
