U.S. Army Capt. Phil Sakala, a fire support officer with the 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry, Task Force 1-501, from Las Cruces, N.M. (center), took first place in the Alaska 5K Big Wilderness Run at Forward Operating Base Salerno Aug. 18. Sakala came in first over all participants with a run time of 17:45.
