MAFFS 8 takes off from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Aug. 13, 2012. The 145th Airlift Wing, North Carolina Air National Guard is sending two C-130 Hercules cargo planes to southern California, where they will fight fires at the direction of the U.S. Forest Service beginning Tuesday, Aug. 14. One aircraft will carry the MAFFS module and the other will transport equipment and maintenance specialists.
