Lance Cpl. Steven G. Sutton, 24, of Leesburg, Ga., died May 26 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. Sutton was killed by an improvised explosive device while assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
The funeral was held June 6 at First Baptist Church of Leesburg. While the family held a private graveside service, thousands of Southwest Georgians lined the route from the church to the gates of Crown Hill Cemetery for the processional.
