Sergeant Major Anthony Sammartino (right) is relieved as the sergeant major of Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, by Lt. Col. Thomas Savage during a relief and appointment and retirement ceremony at Camp Margarita, June 7. Sergeant Major Daniel Fliegel, coming to Division from Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, was appointed as the new senior enlisted advisor of the largest battalion in “The Blue Diamond.” He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1986 as a combat engineer and is from Northfield, Minn. Sammartino, an air traffic controller by trade from Miami, retired after 24 years of service to the Corps.
